Klaviyo Pricing 2026: Free Plan, Profile Tiers and How to Keep Costs Down

Klaviyo is free for up to 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month. Paid Email plans cost about $30 per month at 1,000 profiles and about $150 at 10,000, according to 2026 pricing guides. Klaviyo bills on active profiles, meaning every contact who can receive marketing, so your bill grows with your list, engaged or not.

Klaviyo pricing by list size

Active profilesEmail plan (approx.) *Per 1,000 profiles
250Free—
1,000about $30/monthabout $30
5,000$70 or $100/month (sources disagree)$14–20
10,000about $150/monthabout $15

The price per profile falls as you grow, but the total bill still multiplies by about 5 between 1,000 and 10,000 profiles. Between 10,000 and 15,000 profiles, pricing guides report steps of 500 profiles at $25 each.

How "active profiles" work

Klaviyo counts every profile that can receive marketing emails. That includes subscribers who never open. Two rules matter:

  1. Suppressed profiles are not billed. Suppressing unengaged contacts lowers your bill.
  2. The 90-day rule. If you unsuppress a profile, you cannot suppress it again for 90 days, so suppress carefully.

A store with 10,000 profiles where 3,000 never open could move down to the 7,000-profile tier by suppressing them, saving money every month without losing customers who actually read.

Omnisend is the closest like-for-like alternative for Shopify stores, with Pro at $59 a month for 2,500 contacts and unlimited emails under fair use. See our Klaviyo alternatives guide.

Which plan fits your situation?

  • A new store under 250 profiles: Klaviyo Free, to build your welcome and abandoned-cart flows from day one.
  • A store with 1,000 to 5,000 profiles: Klaviyo Email if its segmentation and flows earn back the cost; otherwise compare Omnisend.
  • A store at 10,000+ profiles: clean your list regularly; profile-based pricing rewards it.
  • A store that also needs SMS: compare Klaviyo Email + SMS with Omnisend Pro.

How to pay less for Klaviyo

  • Suppress profiles that haven't opened or clicked in 90 to 180 days.
  • Use double opt-in to keep fake and low-quality signups out of your list.
  • Don't unsuppress profiles casually: the 90-day rule locks them in.
  • Check the calculator at your exact list size every quarter.

Questions to ask before you buy

  1. How many active profiles will you have in 12 months?
  2. What share of your list is unengaged?
  3. Do you need SMS now?
  4. Which flows (welcome, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase) will you run?

Klaviyo terms explained

  • Active profile: a contact who may receive marketing emails; Klaviyo bills on these.
  • Suppressed profile: a contact who no longer receives marketing; not billed.
  • Flow: an automated sequence, such as abandoned cart.
  • Composer: Klaviyo's AI content tool; the free plan includes $5 of usage a month.

Three real-world scenarios

A new Shopify store with 200 subscribers

Klaviyo Free covers the store: 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month. Setting up welcome and abandoned-cart flows now means they will already be running when the list grows.

A store with 1,000 profiles sending 2 campaigns a week

At about $30 a month on Klaviyo Email, the store pays about $360 a year. If its abandoned-cart flow recovers even one or two orders a month, Klaviyo pays for itself. If the store only sends newsletters, MailerLite from $12 a month costs less.

A store with 10,000 profiles, 3,000 of them inactive

At about $150 a month, the store pays about $1,800 a year. Suppressing the 3,000 profiles that haven't engaged in 6 months could move it to a lower tier. Given the 90-day rule, it should suppress in one planned clean-up rather than in small batches.

Common mistakes when buying Klaviyo

  • Never cleaning the list. Inactive profiles cost money every month.
  • Unsuppressing profiles casually. They can't be suppressed again for 90 days.
  • Adding SMS too early. Prove email flows first.
  • Ignoring double opt-in. Low-quality signups raise your tier.
  • Comparing headline prices only. Compare at your exact profile count on each calculator.

How to budget for Klaviyo in 5 steps

  1. Count your active profiles today and estimate them in 12 months.
  2. Identify unengaged profiles (no opens or clicks in 90 to 180 days) you could suppress.
  3. Check Klaviyo's calculator at your engaged profile count, not your total list.
  4. Decide whether you need SMS now or later.
  5. Compare the yearly total with Omnisend at the same size, flows included.

The flows that make Klaviyo pay for itself

Klaviyo's price is easiest to justify when automated flows bring in revenue every day, without you sending anything manually. Four flows matter most for a typical store:

  1. Welcome series. Two or three emails to new subscribers: who you are, your best products, a reason to buy now.
  2. Abandoned cart. A reminder to shoppers who added products but didn't check out. For most stores this is the flow that recovers the most revenue.
  3. Browse abandonment. A lighter nudge to visitors who viewed products without adding them to the cart.
  4. Post-purchase. A thank-you, care or usage tips, a review request, and later a cross-sell.

Set these four up before you worry about campaigns. If, after three months, these flows don't recover more than your monthly bill, either improve them or move to a cheaper tool. Every alternative listed above also supports welcome and abandoned-cart flows, so the comparison is fair.

Our verdict

Klaviyo is the reference for ecommerce email because its flows and segmentation drive sales, and its free plan lets new stores start properly. Its pricing grows with your list, engaged or not, so list hygiene is part of using it. For stores where email revenue clearly covers the bill, Klaviyo is worth it. For smaller stores watching every dollar, Omnisend offers similar ecommerce flows from a lower starting price.
